Name poem:
Why must we be viewed this way?
Over the years thing are starting to change
May I please wear the pants?
Even though my hair is blonde doesn’t mean i can not read
Now it is time to give us a chance. Let me show you what all I can do

I really feel that gender roles have stayed the same over the course of history and i feel that in the future these set roles will change. Many women were once viewed as perfect stay at home mothers and now they are out working jobs that only men were allowed to do like construction for example. Mens gender roles have also change lately. There are now words like Metro-Sexual which is a man who likes to dress more stylish then most men. Men back in history were viewed as tough rough cold hearted people. Now a-days the gender role of a man has changed greatly.
I feel some people are still very closed minded about gender roles still to this day. Many older people who are within our society who were brought up learning how certain genders need to act are very unaccepting of the new changes and views on new gender roles today. These people need to wake up and smell the coffee. Our society is quickly changing and these closed minded people need to get on board.
After learning more on gender roles it inspired me to wanna break free from the norm. When i get older i don’t want my children to view me as a perfect stay at home mom like the non-realistic mother seen in shows like “Leave it to Beaver”. I want to try and teach other people to break free from these gender roles. Why can’t we have to freedom to be how we want to be no matter what gender we are with out people judging us?
I chose to relate this with the song independent by Destiny’s Child. The song talks about a woman able to be out on her own and only needing to depend on herself. She is breaking free from the gender role of a man always having to provide for the woman.

Couplet Poetry:
In what way do you mean what you say?
In a loving way or a harmful way?
I never really know how to take it

My ideas about words like bitch and cunt really changed today after class. I never knew that those words used to be words of praise for women back in the day. Before this class i always found those words to be so offensive and rude. Especially if it came out of a male mouth. It is so true that words are simply words. We people put so much meaning behind these words. Who really invents the meaning behind these words in the first place? I really like learning new meaning behind different words.
Another thing that really changed for me after this class is how people use different put down words when they don’t really mean for them to be put downs. For example, in class we talked about the word nigger, and why for some people it is used to show a sign of friendship but for others it is seen as a horrible put down racist word. I mean i kinda already knew this before this class but to just see how many other people felt that way was really shocking.

I have had the refusal of the call happen to me most recently up here at IUP. I am finding myself refusing to answer the call of going to class and getting a good education so i can succeed. Every morning i wake up, well not every morning jujst monday, wendesday, and friday, and i say to myself “i’m not going to class. I’m gonna sleep instead, I dont care what my class is learning about today. ” I always get like this then later on in the day when i realize that i porbally just missed a really important lesson that’s probally gonna be on my next test i start to freak out. I think to myself like WTF did i just do? Why didnt i just go to class im so freakin stupid.
Im so scared im going to fail three of my classes and instead of just doing somehting about it i simply never go to class and continue to fail. I think in the back of my subconsius i feel that college really isn’t the place for me right now, but i stay in school just to please my paretns and other people around me. All my life i was brought up being told you need to college to succeed in life. Up until now i always believed them, but after having the english class this semester so far im starting to realize that i actually wont be succeeding because im not happy at all. My goals for life have changed a great deal. I am now more focsed on doing what makes me happy and following my passion. Even if it isn’t school.
After writing this blog assignment and re-reading it, i just realized i need to have a talk with my mother about doing what makes me happy. Being in school right now when i have no idea what i want to do when i am older is making me miserable.

After doing some research i came across the following definitions of the characters you asked us to look up. Gilgamesh and Enkidu- from what i read Gilgamesh was the fifth king of Uruk. He ruled circa 2700 BC. Gilgamesh and his son Urlugal rebuilt the sanctuary of the goddess Ninlil in Nippur. Gilgamesh is known for being two parts god one part man. Enkidu is also from the story of Gilgamesh. He is raised by wild animals and getting bedded by the Shamhat. This makes him closer to civilization. He ends up passing away from illness which inspires Gilgamesh to escape death.
Beowulf is the hero in his own life story. He saves his city by slaying the local monster named Grendel. Then Grendels mother seeks revenge on Beowulf. Beowulf ends up also slaying Grendels mother but dies doing so. Grendel is the monster which beowulf must kill. He goes around terroizes the city, because he can’t stand hearing the sound of the local people throwing parties. In the end he ends up dieing at the hands of Beowulf.
Jekyll and Hyde are the same people. Dr. Jekyll is a kind man who is willing to help anyone. However when Dr, Jekyll takes his potions out comes Mr.Hyde. A very dark and evil character In the end Hyde ends up replaceing Jekyll.
Elle from the movie Legally blonde, is a very Blonde stereotypical type of girl. She loves pink, has lots of money, and even has a little dog that she carries around in her purse. Elle is in love with her long time boyfriend Emmit. When Emmit dumps her because he feels she is just not serious enough for him, this gives Elle the drive to go to Harvard to prove to Emmit she can be a very serious lawyer. Once Elle is in Harvard she ends up working on a murder case. She wins her case and proves that the person they were defending is innocent. Elle then graduates from Harvard top of her class. Chutney is the person who Elle ends up proving is them real murderer. Chutney tries to blame the death of her father on her fathers new wife who is just as young as she is. Chutney was going to kill her fathers new wife because she was so jealous, but when she thought it was the new wife walking through the door it was actually her father. Chutney ends up shooting her own father and tries blaming it on the wife. Elle is able to prove Chutney killed her father and Chutney is sent off to jail.
All of these character are trying to either defeat something or end up being defeated. In the end of each story on character loses and one wins. The poem i chose is on page 31 titled “I’m nobody! Who are you?”
